Before you rely on it

The planner uses typical allowances for UK, US, EU, Australian and Canadian passports — other passports can differ, and some in that group (for example US and Australian passports in Vietnam) need a visa first; the planner warns where that applies. Every country's rules were last checked on or after 27 Oct 2026. Entry is always at the officer's discretion — confirm on official sites before you book.

Frequently asked questions

Do visa-free days in Southeast Asia add up across countries?

No. Unlike Europe's Schengen area, each Southeast Asian country counts its own allowance from your entry date, and it resets when you leave. A month in Thailand does not use up any of your days in Malaysia or Vietnam.

How are days counted?

From your entry date, and both the day you arrive and the day you leave count. Arriving on the 1st and leaving on the 30th is a 30-day stay.

Can I keep moving between countries to stay in the region long-term?

Each country decides at the border. Thailand in particular looks at your whole travel history and can refuse travellers with repeated back-to-back visa-exempt stays, and caps visa-exempt land entries at two per calendar year. For long stays, a proper long-stay visa is the safer route.
